POSITION SUMMARYThe Assistant Director of Finance/Controller serves as the organization's primary financial strategist, providing clear direction to the Leadership Team and Board of Directors on all financial and administrative matters with a drive to steward and maximize Judi's House resources in service to our mission.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Assistant Director of Finance/Controller applies communication, technology, analytical and management skills to guide all organizational financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
This position plays a key role in supporting and determining Judi's House's strategic planning, monitoring, and evaluation and impact measurement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIESThe Assistant Director of Finance/Controller performs a wide range of duties:
Oversees all financial functions for the organization including, but not limited to reporting, budgeting, purchasing, and all business insurance.
Maintains and continuously improves the system of financial controls, including general accounting, investment accounting, tax compliance and planning, budgeting, and banking.
Prepares reports which summarize and forecast the organization's business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and revenue based on past, present, and expected operations.
Provides management with timely reviews of the organization's financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
Ensures organization meets budget targets.
Explains budget to actual variances as needed.
Reads, analyzes, and interprets financial reports and legal documents; responds to common inquiries or complaints.
Directs preparation and analysis of annual budget process, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification.
Records, reconciles and balances monthly:
bank statements, balance sheet, income statements (endowment, grant fund, investments), expenses, and donor database/accounting software, Conducts monthly, quarterly, and annual period-end procedures and prepares related financial statements and reports.
Maintains general ledger accounts.
Prepares functional expense allocations and cost center reporting.
Protects assets by developing, adhering to, and enforcing internal controls.
Acts as the primary staff contact to the Finance Committee, managing all the committee functions and regularly prepares and presents financial reports for the Finance Committee and Board of Directors meetings.
Processes all accounts payable including check disbursement and electronic payments.
Records deposits prepared by the Development Manager and maintains deposit records for audit and compliance.
Validates and records payroll activity and assists with processing when necessary.
Manages vendor relationships pertaining to accounting needs and information.
Monitors and confirms financial conditions by conducting annual audits.
Prepares all necessary documents and schedules and provides information to external auditors.
Reviews work of audit firm to finalize yearly audited consolidated financial statements and 990 for presentation to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
Ensures all federal, state, and local charitable registration obligations are met.
Submits regular reports required by regulatory agencies.
Provides grant and donor required financial information and reports to appropriate team members.
Maintains compliance with restricted donations and grant funds.

Develops, implements, and evaluates internal controls and nonprofit financial policies and procedures in conjunction with CEO and Finance Committee.
Advises management on insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
Establishes/maintains relationship with banks and other financial institutions.
Communicates and works with staff regarding daily/weekly/monthly accounting process and procedures.
Advises management on desirable operation adjustments or modifications to existing corporate programs.
Manages the financial reporting system and processes to meet the needs of the management team for each department.
Provides recommendations for an overall direction of financial functions that informs strategic planning, corporate economic strategies, and fiscal objectives.
Communicates with external CPA, as necessary.
Manages repository of vendor contracts.
Evaluates the effectiveness of the accounting software and supporting database.

The Position:
The Assistant Director of Finance/Controller position is a full time, exempt position.
This position is eligible to work remotely up to one day per week at the manager's discretion.
The schedule for this position is Monday Friday 8am 5pm with some flexibility.
Salary range for this role is:
$93,784 $111,911.
