TERM APPOINTMENT, Full-time Competitive Service: Term NTE 13 months This position conducts innovative research and measurements in realization of UTC (NIST), distribution of precision time and frequency information, and international coordination of UTC. You must be a U.S. citizen. You must be registered for selective service (as applicable). You must be suitable for Federal employment.
Conduct innovative research and measurements supporting advances in the NIST time scale serving as the basis for official U.S. time and NIST time and frequency measurement services.
Propose and develop new research and measurements on technologies related to time and frequency standards.
Propose and perform new research and measurements on technologies related to time and frequency standards, including highly accurate time and frequency transfer over transcontinental links.
Present research results in scientific conference and workshops.
Collaborate with scientists developing and applying time standards and related technologies at NIST and in other organizations in the US and across the world.

A. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.
IN ADDITION to the basic qualifications requirement above, an applicant must meet the criteria below: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level (ZP-II for NIST employees). Specialized experience is defined as experience in the development and applications of complex measurement systems, including development and applications of sophisticated electronic measurement systems. Experience in the development and operation of time scales and time standards based on atomic frequency standards. Experience in the development and applications of precision time and frequency measurements and transfer, in collaboration with scientists inside and/or outside NIST.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
