Senior Buyer / Planner

Primary Responsibilites:
Responsible for obtaining materials, components and equipment. Gathers quotations, examines bids, and makes awards. Determines material requirements from engineering and production schedules, and maintains inventory at planned levels. Plans, schedules and monitors for the movement of materials through the production cycle. Evaluates vendor reliability, develops new supply sources where suppliers are inadequate. Monitors cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value.
Knowledge: Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. This job is the fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position. Must have demonstrated experience negotiating/attaining cost management targets.
Job Complexity: Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Must have a strong ability to communicate across multiple departments including Engineering, Quality and Production.
Supervision: Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments. Ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment with minimal supervision.
Experience & Education: Requires a Bachelor s degree or equivalent experience and good writing and oral communication skills. Minimum 5 years of related experience. Strong Microsoft office skills, especially Excel required. Prior experience with Oracle ERP system and CPIM and/or APICS certification desirable.
Qualifications:
Experience managing multiple commodities including machined components and raw metal stock with suppliers both domestic and international.
Experience in buying, planning, supplier relations, material planning and inventory management roles for new products and on-going production.
Skill in preparing and analyzing complex technical specifications, bids and proposals.
Perform data analytics, forecast demand, and identify baselines for purchasing that meet prioritized business requirements.
Maintain item master accuracy, lead times, prices, and quoted quantity price breaks.
Monitor, analyze, and report material variances to standard cost.Interfaces with Accounting, Manufacturing Engineering, and Production to establish standard costs.
Ability to respond consistently with a high degree of initiative to resolve issues or complex problems that may arise.
Implement improvement processes to reduce inventory and non-value added work.
Expedite orders as necessary.Identify actual and potential delivery problems and take proactive steps to inform appropriate personnel.
