Physical Science Technician, ZT-1311-III (GS-9/10 equivalent)

To fabricate and assemble high-performance silicon platelet micromachined microwave feedhorns and other microwave components for use in cryogenic microwave polarimeter arrays for astronomical science; to perform metrology and other quality assurance measurements on microwave components during and after the manufacturing process; to maintain existing processes and develop improved processes for fabricating microwave optical components including photolithography and plasma etching. To perform computer aided design of mechanical parts for assembly and test of micromachined parts and cryogenic optical components. To perform assembly of microwave and cryogenic detector components utilizing automated assembly tools. Provide technical knowledge as needed to maintain and expand the capabilities of the Division micro-fabrication facilities (cleanroom). To qualify, applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 level (or ZT-II at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience in microfabrication and micromachining of microwave silicon platelet feedhorns. including at least 1 year experience with photolithographic, vacuum deposition tools, plasma etching tools, and automated assembly tools such as wire bonders, die bonders, and glue dispensing robots. OR Two full years of Graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. OR A master's degree that is directly related to the work of the position.
