Information Technology (IT) Specialist (Security), ZP-2210-4 (MAP)

As an IT Specialist (Security), you will perform the following duties:
Ensure the integration of security into every phase of the Chemical Sciences Laboratory (CSL) computer network and telecommunications systems throughout the life cycle of these systems; implement and manage security systems including firewalls, vulnerability scans, intrusion detection systems and countermeasures; and formulate and execute security policies, standards and procedures. Advise management and staff on IT security issues. Monitor IT security alerts and investigate active and potential IT security exploits, and report suspected and known IT incidents; and communicate IT security requirements to management and staff, directing appropriate actions for CSL systems. Serve as contact point on effective IT practices. Coordinate, track and enforce mandatory IT Security Awareness training, and formulate and implement IT security evaluation approaches to perform ongoing inspections and monitoring. Plan, budget and report on security matters, including IT security costs. Develop budgets for new and ongoing security costs; and provide reports detailing IT security activities and status, including systems inspections, vulnerability assessments and required remedial actions. Experience:
In addition to meeting the IT Competencies above applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify at the ZP-4 or GS-13 level:

Experience:
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, applicants must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZP-3 or GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
Applying IT security standards and practices in support of security operations; information security administration and controls; and network and telecommunications life cycle management; Assisting in the implementation of changes to work methods and procedures to strengthen information security for IT platforms, networks, and software; Performing risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to develop and implement policies, operating procedures, and training to address intrusion detection and prevention; and Evaluating IT security operations and requirements to determine program costs for use in formulating budgets.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
