Public Affairs Specialist

If you are selected for this position you will lead NIST Boulder community relations, STEM education, campus tours and other outreach efforts, including advising agency managers on strategies, messaging, and employee engagement, and other stakeholder communications to meet agency goals; writing, editing, video scriptwriting, and posting of internal and external web content; and serve as the NIST Boulder primary point of contact for emergency communications. You will be responsible for supervising the Boulder Public Affairs Office Manager and serve as the team lead for the 5 member PAO staff in Boulder. The position includes performing a full range of supervisory responsibilities, such as performance appraisals, leave administration, and EEO, for 1 employee. TO QUALIFY, you must possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the ZA-III level (GS-13 equivalent). Specialized experience is defined as experience in original writing and in editing the work of others that communicates science/technical research topics in lay language to non-technical audiences such as an organization's employees or external stakeholders. (This experience should include communication using a variety of different formats such as websites, videos, speeches, emails, and digital signage). Selective Factor:
IN ADDITION to the specialized experience, at the time of application, you must provide two personally created writing samples and one example of editing the work of others with track changes that use journalistic lay language to describe the key conclusions of complex research in physics, chemistry, biology, computer science or another science and technology field. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
