Incumbent shall work from a schedule to change lamps and ballasts across the Boulder Site and assist journeyman electricians with larger repairs. Incumbent shall have the ability to make repairs by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures such as broken and bare wiring, burned out switches and relays, loose connections and fittings, damaged light fixtures and ballasts, and poorly operating thermostats. In addition, when work instructions and materials are provided incumbent shall be able to install or repair electrical systems in a research and development facility and perform minor repairs on complex electrical systems. They shall have the ability to locate broken, worn, damaged, or poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls, and equipment through visual check or through use of a small variety of test equipment, for example, test lamps, voltage testers, ammeters, and polarity testers. Incumbent will also complete needed repairs to installed systems, and rearrange and hook up items such as outlets, switches, light fixtures, regulators, and circuit breakers. Additionally, the incumbent will operate the Division's heavy equipment, perform vehicle operator checks and serves as a member of the snow removal team. There is no specific length or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to perform electrical worker duties, such as those described in the duties section of this announcement, without more than normal supervision., screen out element(i.e. without more than normal supervision). Applicants must meet the screen out elements and achieve an overall score of at least fifty (50%) or higher Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
