Position is located at National Institute of Standards and Technologies, Chief Office of Facilities and Property Management, Facilities Maintenance Division. The primary purpose of this position is operation and maintenance on HVAC/utilities systems in a research and development facility. Performs various tasks in connection with the repair and operation of HVAC/utilities for a variety of large and complex Federal buildings or facilities. Position requires knowledge to operate/maintain/repair commercial boilers and chillers as well as the associated equipment. Typical work assignments include the performance of various checks, tests, adjustments, and troubleshooting tasks to determine the need of repair and routine maintenance work on AC/HVAC systems. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs as needed on same equipment. Plans, lays out, sets up, and completes work assignments of the trade by blueprints, sketches, oral instructions and other specifications. The incumbent also serves as a member of the snow crew and performs operator checks on their vehicle. There is no specific length or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to perform utility systems repairer operator duties, such as performing preventative maintenance and repairs on commercial boilers and chillers and experience with high pressure steam systems without more than normal supervision. screen out element Also, may be required to obtain a universal CFC certification within 9 months of employment to support refrigerant recovery needs.
