As a Supervisory Research Chemist, you will perform the following duties:
Lead atmospheric chemistry research studying tropospheric composition and chemical processes related to weather and/or air quality. Lead analyses of observations from satellite, airborne and ground-based field missions; combine measurements and atmospheric models to quantify anthropogenic emissions; explore the impact of these emissions and their chemical transformations on weather, climate, and air quality; and contribute to and lead national and international tropospheric composition research. Develop and present research results and findings. Publish results of research in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international scientific conferences. Coordinate scientific discussions of future atmospheric composition research directions to ensure strategic goals are met. Initiate interactions with other agencies, academia and others assemble the research expertise for atmospheric composition and tropospheric pollutants research. Perform the full range of supervisory responsibilities for a subordinate staff. Plan, disseminate and review workloads; develop employee performance standards and evaluate performance; identify training needs; interview candidates for positions; communicate goals and objectives for the research group; and adhere to non-discriminatory employment practices. EDUCATION:
A. Degree:
physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR B. Combination of education and experience - course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. -AND-SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify at the ZP-5 or GS-15 level:

Experience:
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, applicants must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZP-4 or GS-14 in the Federal service. Conducting research in characterizing tropospheric or stratospheric chemistry and composition; Performing research of atmospheric composition and interpretation of measurements involving multiple data sources, such as airborne, satellite and numerical models; and Publishing research results and findings in peer-reviewed literature.
